The Rainforest Trail Run Celebrates the Truth and Reconciliation Actions in the Sanctuary of the Urban Rain Forest of Central Park

The 2022 RainForest Trail Run was held under sunny skies in Burnaby’s urban forest in beautiful Central Park last Saturday. The Mayor of Burnaby, Mile Hurley opened the 3rd annual event by introducing the Coastal Wolfpack with Coast Salish music, dance and song.  The event was organized by the Achilles Society to feature local indigenous culture with the support of TELUS, the Vancouver Sun, The Province and Victory Creative. Meet director, Chris Hancock said “Our Achilles group are so pleased with this year’s turnout after the 2021 event was impacted by a torrential downpour.”

Coastal Wolfpack opens the Rainforest Trail Run

Dr. Rosalin Miles, Research Associate in Indigenous Studies in Kinesiology, member of the Lytton First Nation  completed the 5 kilometre course with her daughter. Rosalin is the founder and Executive Director of the Indigenous Physical Activity & Cultural Circle (IPACC), a non-profit which promotes physical activity in the Musqueam community.

Dave Robinson is an Anishinaabe Algonquin from the Timiskaming First Nation in Northwestern Quebec is currently the Vice President of IPACC and finished third on the 5 kilometre course. Dave is a former North American Native Boxing Champion.

The John and Shannon Wheeler clan may have had the largest family and friends participation with the youngest aided by the stroller.

All completed the 5 kilometre course through the urban rain forest trails of Central Park

Olympic Silver medalist, Charmaine Crooks participated in the RainForest Trail Run for the third time. She is a former member of the International Olympic committee and TELUS Vancouver Community Board. TELUS has just released information on their 1,000,000 dollar support for the Witness Blanket as part of the Truth and Reconciliation efforts.

The 5 kilometre course through a real rain forest was led in the men’s event by Adrian Tardio Canito in 17:54 and in the women’s event by Grace Wong in 19:50.
