Unique 5K Run on September 29th, 2019 celebrates Indigenous cultures

BURNABY - Achilles International Track Society is pleased to announce that TELUS has joined them as a founding sponsor of the inaugural Rainforest Trail Run (www.rainforesttrailrun.com) a unique 5K run/walk that is being held for the first time on September 29, 2019 in Central Park, Burnaby, BC.

The event, which starts (at 10am) and finishes at Swangard Stadium, is being staged on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Coast Salish people. The run celebrates the health and vibrancy of the Indigenous cultures on whose territory we work, live and play.

“At TELUS, we believe in the power of sport to foster healthy, dynamic communities and keep us all connected, so we are proud to support the inaugural Rainforest Trail Run as a Founding Sponsor,” said KC Cross, Director of Sponsorship Marketing. “TELUS has a deep respect for Indigenous Peoples, their rights and cultures and we are humbled to support the celebration of this culture. We thank the organizers for their work to stage such an innovative event and wish participants the best of luck.”

Achilles President Dr. Douglas Clement said: “TELUS has been a wonderful and valuable supporter of our outdoor and indoor Harry Jerome track meets over the years, and this sponsorship is an excellent demonstration of their commitment to supporting Indigenous communities, First Nations and healthy lifestyles across Canada.”

In addition to the 5K run/walk through Central Park, there will be a festival component, including music and dance, in Swangard Stadium beginning at 10:45am.  Everyone is invited to participate in the Rainforest Trail Run and can register at www.rainforesttrailrun.com.
