Paul Wong Honours Tokyo Olympians with Harry Jerome Track Classic Awards

Long time Vancouver community supporter, Paul Wong has announced a 3 thousand dollar award to the outstanding performances at the 2021 Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic.

2021 Olympians, Regan Yee and Evan Dunfee will share this award from the legendary past president of the Chinatown Lions as they produced personal bests and Canadian records in the Olympic qualifier this past June.

Evan Dunfee of Richmond toured 25 laps of the 400m Swangard track to produce a world leading mark of 38:39.72 in the 10,000m racewalk to break the Canadian record by over 10 seconds. The UBC graduate was 4th at the 2012 Rio Olympics and a bronze medalist at the 2019 Doha World Championships. At the Tokyo Olympics last month, Evan captured Canada’s first ever Olympic medal in the 50km race walk, the longest athletics event. Dunfee finished in 3 hours 50 minutes and 59 seconds

Regan Yee of South Hazelton, BC achieved her personal best in the 3000m steeplechase and just missed the Olympic qualifying mark by under 2 seconds at the 2021 Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic.  At the Olympic Trials in Montreal on the last day of the Olympic qualification period for Tokyo Olympics, the Trinity Western graduate ran a Canadian record 9:27.54 in the 3000m steeplechase to qualify for her first Olympic Games.
